PGA MSR Credits will be awarded for Roundtable attendance this year

Fitting & Building Custom Clubs requires the very best equipment as well as the very best education and know how and skill. This page explains some of the equipment used by AGCP fitters to insure you have the best fit so they can make the best made golf equipment possible for you and your swing.

The example here is from our Founder and Director of the AGCP Roy Nix and is used as an example only. Other members use other launch monitors or other types of analysis equipment but achieve the same results for their customers, a perfect fit and a great set of golf clubs!

Measuring and Timing Devices used to analyze your golf swing.

gaIIsmG.A.II’s patented laser technology provides unparalleled accuracy and precision in the measurement and reporting of all significant ball flight and golf swing data. The G.A.-II Laser System comprises two main components: an L-Frame swing-capture unit and software. The L-Frame contains lasers, photo-detectors, and ultrahigh speed electronics arranged to create a precisely mapped ‘laser grid’ for the player to hit through. Once a player hits a ball through the laser grid, the GolfAchiever’s user-friendly software records the player’s shot, immediately generates a simulated ball flight, and provides industry standard accuracy on a wide array of golf swing and ball flight parameters.

Did you know that from Suunto G6g6_medium_1e927 you can see your swing tempo and rhythm. Now you can even compare it with the top players of the world!! Suunto presents the reference swing values of 75 PGA players......
We can not only compare your own tempo and rhythm we can also analyze the difference with tour players. Because the golfswing is so personal those values are not only the normative base in your practicing but a reference point for a good fitter to select a shaft appropriate for your swing. Using the Suunto G6 to reference your swing values your AGCP fitter will have a deeper understanding of your golfswing and how to fit it properly!

The Rhythm and Tempo of you swing, the transition of your swing, along with your swing speed will help determine the butt flex of your shafts and the mid flex of your shafts.

Video Devices used to analyze your swing.

hom_logoV1 Golf Video Software when used with a Video camera allows one to view, analyze, and diagnose faults with your swing simply and precisely. All the uncertainty is removed when you see your swing compared to a PGA professional. V1 is all about and how it can help your game. Your AGCP fitter will use it to look at your swing and slow it down to determine exactly where your release is on the downswing. This is critical to determine the best tip flex for your shafts. Video can also be used to show where you position the ball and your tee height and other critical factors about your golf swing that help determine the best fit for you.

Comprehensive Testing Procedures insure proper fit

Using the electronic equipment above along with using an array of heads and shafts for test clubs we can test your swing for the right shaft flex, right length, weight and swingweight.  Getting the proper length on your clubs allows you to hit more shots in the center of the face for more consistency in your accuracy, launch angle, trajectory and distance. We will use various shafts and lead tape to test different weight configurations for you as proper weight is important to your swing tempo and swing path. We also fit for lie using a dynamic testing method of hitting each club and adjusting them to you as yo hit them to insure that each and every iron has the bet lie angle for you. We will measure your hand for the correct grip size to insure you have the correct grip pressure for you hand size.

We have driver heads in various lofts and face angles to test for the optimum loft for your ball speed and angle of attack to insure you have the best possible launch angle and trajectory on your shots to maximize distance, and the optimum face angle to obtain straighter shots allow you to hit more fairways.

Some actual Test Results and what they mean to you...

a_analysis_screen

a_range_screen

 Screen 1
- shows us you dispersion pattern, your swing path, face angle and launch angle, along with club speed, ball speed, and the area of the impact on the club face. We also have a yardage reading, how far off line, the maximum height of the shot and distance to the flag

Screen 2
- shows a chart that track your last 10 shots for ball speed, club speed, launch angle, face angle (azimuth) & carry distance. This allow us to compare each club you hit to determine where your most effective set up is during our testing.

Screen 3
- is the screen you see in the net while you hit your test clubs. You have the look and feel of a driving range with a green to line up and hit to. You can also see your ball flight on the screen after each shot to help you determine how you are hitting each test club.

We will test various head designs, lofts, lies, lengths, flexes, & shaft profiles and you will see what performs best for your swing as the test goes forward. At the end of the session you will know what you need and you will decided how we proceed to customize & complement your existing set, or how we build your new set.

Screen 3 is visible on the hitting net in the pictures to the right as Tom is being tested. I use a powerful projector to project the Range View onto the hitting net to make your experience as realistic as possible while testing indoors. By seeing your ball flight you are subjected to as much realism as possible and you can follow how your test clubs perform as you hit them.

Not only do I analyze the swing data but I also observe the golf swing in all positions to determine the transition move, and the downswing release point, balance, swing plane and other aspects of your golf swing.

Tom plays in a group using a modified Stapleford system for scoring and Tom made a special trip by the shop to tell me the first round he used his new clubs he more than doubled his point production and surpassed his previous target by half again on the first nine holes.

Tom discovered how much fun it is to know before you tee it up you will find your tee ball in the fairway. After testing with virtually the exact same head and shaft he bought he knew exactly what to expect from his new driver on the first tee. Tom was delighted to tell me he actually got the same results on the golf course that he got while testing.

FAQs
What happens after the fitting?
After the fitting we know the specifics for your ideal club or set of clubs. You have the option of having your existing clubs retrofitted to meet your specifications as close as possible, or buying a club or set of clubs custom made to those exact specifications.

Does the fitting fee include the golf clubs?
Not always, although some AGCP fitters have pricing structures to provide for this but not most. With most fitters the fitting fees are for the time and expertise required to analyze your game and for the time on the launch monitor and swing analysis equipment. Any clubs you purchase or any retrofitting of your existing clubs will be a separate charge. It is best to ask about this before you make a decision about your AGCP fitter.

How much are your custom clubs?
Most AGCP Custom Club prices are comparable to other quality top of the line golf equipment you might purchase in any Golf Store or Pro Shop across the country. Depending on the heads and shafts, some are a little less and some are a little more. But what a bargain they are. Far better fit and far better constructed for you than anything else on the market.

Once I have the information from my fitting, can I buy clubs fit for me at my local Golf Store or Pro Shop?
Possibly, but probably not. The AGCP process usually fits you to a variable you might call sub flexes between the typical flexes you will find in a Golf Store or Pro Shop. If you happen to land on the exact flex the Golf Store or Pro Shop sells you may be able to purchase your clubs there if the length and weight is also a match for you too. The AGCP fitting process will find the best length, best weight and swingweight for your swing and few Golf Stores or Pro Shops are capable of having their clubs made to the specifications you might need. For example: You might need a 43.5 inch Driver with a D-2 swingweight and a 80 gram shaft with a particular flex profile not available from the companies they sell. They only offer 45 or 45.5 inch drivers with 2 or 3 shaft selections and their flexes may not match up to your ideal flex. They cannot order a 43.5 inch driver with a D-2 swingweight because all of the heads for their drivers are manufactured to be assembled at 45 or 45.5 inches. It is likely that only your AGCP fitter can build you exactly what you need for you best golf.

I’ve heard that custom clubs do not have the resell value that the clubs I buy in Golf Stores or Pro Shops have, is that true?
This probably is true. Your clubs are fit for you just as a custom fit suit and it is not likely you would find someone to match you exactly any more than you might find someone who will be a perfect fit for your custom made suit. Also most people hit their custom clubs so much better there should be no need to resell them unless you make a dramatic change in your swing or ability. Our customers are generally more interested in playing better golf and enjoying the game more than buying and selling clubs. If you are buying clubs for an investment, custom clubs are probably not what you want. You are far better off with a commodity product like the major name brands that everyone is aware of.

OK, suppose I fit pretty close to Store bought clubs and they are on sell, why shouldn’t I save some money and buy these clubs?
If you purpose is to save money you probably should not waste your time getting fitted at all, custom anything is expensive and requires an investment in time and money. You can ask your local Pro to recommend something close for you. AGCP fittings are very precise and we spend a lot of time testing for exactly the right specifications for you clubs and it is a time consuming and an expensive process. Why would you spend that much time and that much money and waste it away on as set of clubs that do not fit. Also many AGCP fitters give you a far better guarantee and after the sale service than anyone else in golf.

I just bought a set of Callaways, Nikes, Pings, etc. and I want to get you to fit them for me. Can you do that?
Well, Yes & No. Most of the calls we get with this question are really asking to get their lofts and lies adjusted. Yes we can do that. We perform a Dynamic Lie fitting on each club in the set of irons and adjust them individually to your golf swing. Yes we can retrofit your set to your specifications and very likely make them a lot better than they are, but they are still not totally custom fitted to you in the truest sense. Most AGCP fitting systems do not predetermine what head or shaft or grip you will end up with. We test your swing and you will hit numerous clubs with numerous shafts and through testing we will determine the head design and shaft configuration, the lofts, lengths, flexes and set make up that is best suited for you. But ordinarily, we will not know until we have completed the testing what those are. It is best to be fitted prior to making any purchase and you will have a better set of clubs. If you bought first, come on in anyway and we will fit you and make the adjustments need to make them play better. We can’t guarantee the results will be as good as doing it right, but we can make them better.

Custom Built vs. Custom Fit - What is the difference?
About the same as the difference between a Chevy Impala purchased from a Chevy dealer with all the custom options versus a Chevy Impala custom made for a NASCAR driver.

Can I go to see a PGA Professional for my next set of custom clubs?
Yes, you can. But it would probably be better to see the PGA professional for your swing problems and see an AGCP Qualified Fitter for your fitting. We like to refer to the PGA professionals as the "Swing Professionals" and the Association of Golf Club Fitting Professionals as the “Fitting Professionals”. When you go to an AGCP member, they have training in fitting and building custom golf equipment. Qualified AGCP members understand that shaft frequencies, shaft torque, head lofts and all of the critical engineering specifications that go into the menu to come up with a perfect set of clubs for you. Many Qualified AGCP members work hand in hand with PGA Professionals to help a golfer with a combination of swing lessons and the proper equipment to achieve the golfers' ultimate goal for game improvement.

I have heard a lot about "Frequency Matched" clubs; Is that something that will help me?
Frequency Matched is a process of measuring shaft flex. Many AGCP members use a shaft flex matching system similar to frequency matching and they use frequency matching also. Yes, this process improves the set tremendously for most golfers. AGCP members go to great lengths to measure, test and optimize the way shafts are installed in all clubs.

Loft and Lie Angle Adjustments - Is it important for my game, and how often should I get them checked?
Loft angles should be set to achieve a proper distance gap between each club in the set so the golfer can best judge which club is needed for a particular distance from the pin. If the lofts on your clubs are maladjusted you will have problems judging which clubs to use at different distances from the pin. Lie angle determines direction of the ball at impact. If you lie angles a improperly adjusted you may get varying results from what you think is a good shot. This is very important. It is probably a good idea for most of us to get this checked at least once a year.

I have been reading a lot about graphite shafts in irons; are they as consistent as steel shafts?
The answer is YES! The improvements in graphite shaft production and quality control over the years has been dramatic over the past dozen years. Once graphite was an inexact science whereas today shaft designers can achieve bend profiles and “kick” points virtually anywhere on the shaft they want and virtually to the degree they want. Graphite shafts today are anywhere from 45 grams in weight to up to 120 grams in weight. With the major contribution of the golf shaft being weight control this allows your AGCP fitter to fit you weight exactly where it needs to be for your swing.
